Higher Education Students (Honours Degrees and Foundation Degrees)
Financial Support Available
Both the College and Government recognise that for many learners their ability to attend college will depend on whether they can afford it. There are many ways in which both the College and the Government can help you financially. Please click the following links to find out about funding for your particular level of course.
Cleveland College of Art & Design Tuition Fees^
An annual tuition fee of £3,225 is payable by all students on full time undergraduate courses for 2009 entry. You do not have to find this money up front as you can apply for a tuition fee loan from the Student Loan Company to cover the cost.
Tuition fees will rise slightly each following year in line with inflation and subject to government regulations.
Student loans do not start to be repaid until the April after you have left your course, and you only repay a percentage of your income, so repayments are based on the amount you earn and not on the amount you owe.For up-to-date information, please visit: www.aimhigher.ac.uk/student_finance
Cleveland College of Art & Design Bursaries^
Students with a household income of up to £25,000 a year will receive a non–repayable bursary of £1,025 each year. For UK students, your bursary entitlement will be based on your eligibility for the non-repayable maintenance grant when you apply for help with living costs to Student Finance Direct or your Local Education Authority. You will be notified of your bursary entitlement shortly after you have sent to the College your financial assessment notification that you received from the Student Loans Company. EU students should contact the Student Finance Direct EU team to apply for a fees loan and financial support assessment.

Foundation Degree Scholarships^
Foundation Degree scholarships are worth £1,000 over the two years of the course – they are non-repayable.
Our scholarships are designed to recognise and reward academic achievement. They are awarded to students who have at least 300 UCAS tariff points at Level 3 (excluding As level or key skills). This could be from A-levels, BTEC National Diploma or Advanced Scottish Higher but the addition of tariff points from more than one qualification is not permissible. In the case of A-levels, this must include at least two subjects at grade B or higher. Equivalent EU qualifications are also eligible.
^ Applies to UK and EU students only
The tuition fee loan is available to everybody regardless of household income if you are studying for your first degree. For comprehensive information about financial support for living costs, please go to www.aimhigher.ac.uk and www.studentfinancedirect.co.uk. Higher Education Access to Learning Fund (HE ALF)
The Access to Learning Fund can provide extra money if you are in financial hardship and need help for your course or to stay in higher education.
The fund can provide financial support:
- • for specific course and/or living costs that are not already met by other grants (eg. childcare costs)
- • for emergency payments to cover unexpected financial crises
- • if you are thinking of giving up your course because of financial difficulties and need financial help to remain on the course
Money paid out from the fund is paid on top of the standard student finance package (loans, grants, bursaries and scholarships) and not instead of it. Therefore, you are expected to apply for all the loans, grants and bursaries (as appropriate) to which you are entitled before asking for help from the Access to Learning Fund.
If you are on a part-time course, you may also be able to get help with your tuition fees from the Additional Fee Support Scheme.
You can contact Student Support by telephone on 01642 298821 or contact Student Support here through the web site

The Hardship Fund
The college understands that everybody is human, and from time to time people will lose their purse / forget their packed lunch / lose their bus pass. Student Support can issue small emergency loans to cover such immediate and unforeseen hardship. Often these loans are provided in the form of a voucher for the refectory or the Art Box for the purchase of urgent materials. These loans are expected to be repaid the next day.
