What do I need to get on this course?
4 GCSEs at grade C or above plus portfolio of artwork to study a BTEC Extended Diploma and a NCFE
5 GCSEs at grade A-C plus portfolio of artwork to study a BTEC Extended Diploma and an A-level
The portfolio could include; Photographs, drawing, painting, sculptures and sketchbooks of your idea and concepts.
What will I study?
- You will experiment with a wide range of photographic techniques and processes, chemical and digital based to gain a excellent core knowledge of the subject
- You will work on contemporary stimulating briefs developed to industry standards
- Explore different genres of photography; fine art (gallery based work), commercial, advertising, illustration, fashion, portraiture, landscape and studio
- You will learn to use Photoshop as a creative application within photography
- You will learn how to create new ideas and concepts through the design process (research, plan, experiment, evaluate and present)
- You will learn how to develop analytical annotation that aids the development of ideas
- You will build on historical and contextual understanding
- You will create and understand genres of photography through exciting workshops on location and within the studio
- You will explore the work of photographers through educational visits to local and residential to local and national galleries
- This course allows you to create your own final major project, so that it is individual to your concepts and technical expertise
- You will build a personal and creative portfolio that exemplifies your talents to aid in the successful career progression onto higher education or employment

This course allows you to study an A-Level in Graphics or a NCFE qualification.

You can progress onto a range of courses at Degree or Foundation Degree level in Photography.

Live projects / Trips / Competitions
In the second year of the course you are encouraged to participate in a residential educational visit to London, Paris or Barcelona
You will have the opportunity to complete live projects such as the Penguin book cover project and you will be encouraged and supported to take part in work experience with local businesses
