What do I need to get on this course?
4 GCSEs at grade C or above plus portfolio of artwork to study a BTEC Extended Diploma and a NCFE
5 GCSEs at grade A-C plus portfolio of artwork to study a BTEC Extended Diploma and an A-level
The portfolio could include drawings/paintings, photographs, animation, models, character designs, videos, audio, scripts, etc.
What will I study?
- You will develop your drawing and design skills
- You will develop your skills in ideas generation and creative thinking
- You will learn how to use of a range of digital video and computer equipment
- Modules studied will allow you to experience working on ‘live’ briefs which will be for real life clients
- You will develop research skills and contextual understanding
- You will explore new media technologies, traditional animation techniques such as claymation, pixilation, and cartoon, computer animation 2D and 3D, interactive design, games design and concept art
- You will experience directing, producing, editing, camera work, scriptwriting, lighting and sound
- You will use a wide range of television and video equipment
- You will explore model, set design and construction
- You will explore character design for animation and video game
What else can I study?
This course allows you to study an A-Level in Graphics or a NCFE qualification.
What can I do after this course?
You can progress onto a range of courses at Degree or Foundation Degree level.

Students have progressed on to many different career paths as this course offers such a diverse set of skills. Areas for potential careers include : Television and Video Production, Audio Production, Music Technology, Web designer, On-line Media, Animator, Computer Games Designer , Graphic Designer, Motion Graphics, Special Effects Industries, Illustrator.
Live projects / Trips / Competitions
You will take park in live projects. Students have been involved with projects such as the NHS ‘time to change’ project which allowed students to direct a short film. Students also held an exhibition at Preston Hall Museum.
You will have the opportunity to participate in a range of educational visits and extracurricular activities to local and national museums, galleries and events such as MIMA, Bradford Media Museum, Royal Armouries (Leeds), Disneyland Paris, Flamingoland and Paintballing.
Student work is annually entered into the Royal Television Society Awards, which showcases the best student work from around the country.
