Programme details:-
This programme enables future graphic designers to respond to the challenges of a dynamic and rapidly changing profession. It emphasises industrial relevance through live projects, specialist speakers and advisors from industry, and includes work based learning as a central focus. Creativity and skills are the key ingredients.
The first year provides an introduction to fundamental concepts and skills required by graphic designers. Modules include Typography, Ideas Generation and Visualisation, Digital Graphics for Print, Design Process and Professional Practice. Awareness of visual culture and study skills are introduced in the Introductory Contextual Studies module. The year concludes with Working to a Commercial Brief, which includes a client led major project.
Second year modules explore graphic design in greater depth. Work becomes increasingly demanding as you become ready for work or progression to honours level.
Practical modules include Visual Identity and Branding, Editorial Design and Multimedia. Contextual Studies explores theoretical issues in graphic design and you can select an area of interest for a research project. The programme concludes with the Work Based Learning module, which includes live briefs set by design agencies or clients.
Our programme is enhanced by opportunities for work experience, visiting speakers from industry and visits to exhibitions and studios. In addition to live briefs set by local agencies and clients, you also have the opportunity to enter national competitions such as the D&AD Student Awards and to exhibit your work to a national audience. Each year many students see their work produced commercially.
Our working studio environment is well resourced with industry standard software and hardware.
