What do I need to get on this course?
4 GCSEs at grade C or above plus portfolio of artwork to study a BTEC Extended Diploma and a NCFE
5 GCSEs at grade A-C plus portfolio of artwork to study a BTEC Extended Diploma and an A-level
The portfolio could include drawings, colour work, sketchbooks, design and craft work, videos, scripts, photographs and own personal artwork and creative investigations.
What Will I study?
- You will experiment with a wide range of materials, techniques and processes
- You will learn how to generate ideas through visual research and creative experimentation
- You develop an individual style through practical projects
- You will build experience in drawing, painting, sculpture and multi-disciplinary areas
- You learn to use and integrate computers in art as a creative tool
- Ability to explore links with historical and contextual studies
- You will be involved in live assignments set by industrial clients
- You will work upon a major project which is individual to your concept and specialist area of expertise
- Importantly, you will build an extensive portfolio of practical work demonstrating your individual talents
- You will explore the work of others through educational visits to local and national galleries
What else can I study?
This course allows you to study an A-Level in Photography or a NCFE qualification.
What can I do after this course?
You can progress onto a range of courses at Degree or Foundation Degree level programmes in Fine Art, Illustration, Textiles, Art History, Photography and programmes where ideas generation is highly valued.
What career paths does this course help me get into?
The general nature of the course enables varied career opportunities in Teaching, Illustration, Art Administration, Community Arts, Art Therapy, and a vast range of freelance design careers in a variety of specialised areas within the Art and Design.
Live projects / Trips / competitions
You will visit a range of regional locations to generate primary evidence such as Fountains Abbey, Saltburn, MIMA, Bradford Photographic Museum. Previous residentials have included London and Barcelona
You will take part in competitions, our students have been very successful in the Lloyds TSB ‘Art of Nurture’ Competition. In 2011, one of our students won the North East Regional Final of this prestigious competition.
Students have exhibited their work at Arthur Robinson House, an external exhibition venue.
