Of course, amongst the outstanding education coming your way there will be plenty of opportunity for quality relaxation.

Our energetic live music scene is showcased in popular venues like Middlesbrough’s Empire and the Cornerhouse as well as The Studio in Hartlepool. Stand-out DJs including Pete Tong, Paul Oakenfold, Roger Sanchez and Kate Lawler regularly guest at the Empire and the Purple Onion. All scenes – indie, rock, electro, hip-hop, garage and house to highlight a few – are appreciated and strongly supported around the district. In fact, CCAD boasts as one of its former students Paul Smith of cutting-edge, post-punk invigorators Maximo Park.

Film buffs can get their fix at one of three Multiplexes – Cineworld’s 11 screens in Middlesbrough, Vue Cinema’s 7 screens in Hartlepool and a 14 screen Showcase Cinema at Teesside Retail & Leisure Park.

You can shop in some of the trendiest retail outlets in the country – Psyche and Triads can offer you the latest designer gear whilst alternative shops like Deep and Toast sell unusual vintage clothing.

For other entertainment there are bowling alleys, museums and theatres to visit. The multi-million development at Hartlepool Marina is the region’s premier area for a meal out, with a great selection of bars and restaurants. In 2010 the prestigious Tall Ships race will be hosted by Hartlepool and the College is currently involved in the preparation for this exciting event.

For the sporting there is an array of facilities in the area from the superb white water rafting facilities at the Tees Barrage, with the River Tees Watersports centre in close proximity to a range of outdoor pursuits on the North Yorkshire Moors. You can even experience Premiership football at the Riverside by joining the "Smoggies" in supporting their team – the Boro.

The region plays host to a number of free events including most notably the Middlesbrough Mela, an event celebrating Asian culture, food and music, Middlesbrough Music Live, with many big name acts appearing for free in Middlesbrough Town Centre, and the Riverside Festival showcasing some truly stunning street theatre.
